3 BIG Wows for Eldorado

Wow #1:  The Most Amazing Singing Camp was a great success.  Special thanks to all the parents who help chaperone, organize and run lots of errands.  Thanks to Kedra and Ben for being great counselors along with me.  And of course another round of applause for Karen Martinez who plays so wonderfully.
Wow #2:  Rising Star was a major success. Students, you were amazing and I am looking forward to a great year at Eldorado with all of you.  I can't believe what you've done in just a week.   Parents, thank you thank you.  A big thanks to all the students from other schools who may now be friends of yours.
Wow #3: I just returned from the Alumni Concert Rehearsal, and can't fall asleep because of my excitement.  Please come and hear the Alumni concert at 3:30 pm.  It is free and fun.  GR small group alumni are doing a number along with a group doing some concert pieces.  It will be fun and a nice cool break in the middle of a hot ABQ day.  We'd love to see you there.  It is amazing what a group can do in just a few rehearsals.

2010-2011 Choirs

It has been a crazy two weeks at school.  All in all I have auditioned 130 students for Concert Choir and Intermediate choir and 114 students auditioned for the show choir program.  Attached are the rosters, at this point, for 2010-2011.

Students did a great job and all did so well.  Please understand, that now with around 160 students enrolled in choir altogether, it is getting more and more select when it comes to the upper level groups.

I am so proud of everyone and next year looks to be an amazing year.  There will be 5 total choirs.

Concert Choirs
1. Concert Choir -- Most elite group of singers
2. Intermediate Choir (Mixed Choir) -- auditioned advanced Singers (NEW!!)
3. Treble Choir -- Beginning Choir for girls (NEW!!)

Show Choirs
1.  Gold Rush -- Advanced Mixed Show Choir
2.  24 Carat -- Advanced Women's Concert Choir and Show Choir

Students who make Gold Rush, will be enrolled in either Concert Choir OR Intermediate Choir.


Students who make it into the show choir program must attend the Rising Star show choir camp.  This is a week long intensive camp to prepare students for the coming year as well as their fall show.  This is a great camp and we have greatly lowered the cost this year due to the economy.  Students who don't make 24 Carat or Gold Rush can also use this as a re-audition.  Click here for camp form.  This year checks and forms should be mailed directly to Rising Star.

ALL NEW AND OLD GOLD RUSH students should come to 0 hour Monday morning for Breakfast and a team meeting to discuss a few things.  24 CARAT students should watch for an announcement regarding their student/parent team meeting.

State Choral Competition Winners

Eldorado's Concert Choir won 1st place in the 2010 5A state competition.  One of our parents has taken some video of these performances which you can view here.

Grease starting November 6th

Our drama and choir programs have teamed up for a production of the 1972 musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey.  Later made into a movie starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, this favorite will play in Eldorado's new Performing Arts Center starting on November 6th.

That the time is nigh to bring in the joy and cheer of the Yuletide Season:
Al the regal pageantry and ceremonial pomp of Merrie Olde Sixteenth Century England will be
splendiferously brought to life in the:

Eldorado High School Renaissance Madrigal Dinner

Order of Events
  • The Procession of the Singers to the Hall
  • The Hoisting of a Sparkling Toast from the Wassail Bowl
  • The Procession of the Royal Guard with the Boar’s Head
  • The Serenading of the Minstrels
  • The Procession of the Servants with the Flaming Dessert
  • The Singing of the Concert by the Choir

The featured ensembles from Eldorado High School include the Eldorado Madrigal Singers, Gold Rush, Concert Choir, 24 Carat Treble Choir and Mixed Chorus directed by Todd Krier. The Choir will recreate this event at American Legion Post 49 at 11007 Central Ave SE. on Friday December 4th, Saturday December 5th, and Sunday December 6th. There will also be a silent auction during this event.

Concert Choir Parents and Families,

This concert and dinner is one week from Thursday, on the evening of October 1st.  Sorry that we are a little late in getting out the form for this.  The form is available online.

Please decide who you would like to have come for dinner and see your student sing their solo.  The form should be completed and returned with a check as soon as possible.  The proceeds will help to support the choir program at Eldorado.  Thanks,

September 25 & 26, This is a choral and choreographic workshop for middle and high school students sponsored by EHS GOLD RUSH, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 SHOWFEST Grand Champions! Spend 2 days with one of Albuquerque’s premier show choirs and then show off what you’ve learned to your family and friends! Whether you are in choir or you just enjoy singing and dancing, this workshop is for you!
