Work the Balloon Fiesta

Students and parents sign up to help with a shift or two at this year's Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.

The Kiwanis Club of Albuquerque has an agreement with the Balloon Fiesta to provide assistance for selling tickets and to direct parking for the 14 events.  It requires between 120 and 150 volunteers per event and since not everyone can make all events we need many more volunteers.  We are inviting your organization’s members to become volunteers as a money maker for your group.

In the past we have been able to pay more than $8.00 per hour.  Payment is made directly to the volunteer’s organization.  Some of the High School Key Clubs have earned over $3,000 for having members and parents participating in all the fun events they could schedule.

This is a great opportunity for nonprofit organizations or youth groups to subsidize their group’s budgets for the next year.  Parents and friends of the Youth Organizations are welcome to participate.  We have as few as one person representing their organization!

Time requirements:
A volunteer may pick the shifts that best fit their individual schedules or they may come as a group representing their organization.  Time cards are used at the site for accounting.

Mornings: Signup 3:30 AM and on the job by 4:00 AM until approximately 8:00 AM.  Morning events are scheduled daily Saturday October 4th  Through Sunday October 12, 2008.

Evenings:  Signup 3:00 PM and on the job 3:30 PM until approximately 8:00 PM.  The five evening events are scheduled Saturday October 4th, Sunday October 5th, Thursday October 9th, Friday October 10th, and Saturday October 11th.

Weather / Rainouts:  Plan on coming out regardless of weather, for a 4 hour wind or rain cancellation credit.  Because weather is often different across Albuquerque, it can be bad in one part of the city yet okay at the Fiesta grounds.  We will pay for a 4 hour shift for all that sign up at the field, even though the event is canceled.

Work Assignments and Requirements:
Work Assignments are made daily on a first come basis along with the needs of the day.  Preference is given those that work multiple days and multiple shifts.  Individual needs are taken into account.  Once assigned a task it is important that the volunteer remain on duty until released.

Youth need to be 15 years old or older.

(Slightly shorter shifts)  Lighted Vests and flags or flash lights provided.
